“What are we eating?” is a recurrent question asked by my kids. When it’s something they enjoy, the answer is met with glee, but occasionally with tears when it’s not. Two of my kids are toddlers, and so tears are not infrequent in my home. When it’s a meal they don’t enjoy, I usually will explain to them the reason behind the food choice and the nutritional value. They like to know what the nutrients do to their bodies.
What we eat affects our total wellbeing, so we have to be intentional about what we feed on. While many times we are mindful of what we put into our mouths, we also have to be intentional about what we put into our bodies and hearts through our eyes and ears.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” Proverbs 4:23 NIV
“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 KJV
Our souls, hearts, and bodies feast on what we put in through these orifices and that can determine the trajectory of our lives. What are you watching and reading? What are you listening to? What company are you keeping? I consider all these foods, and they will determine who you become; this happens slowly over time. As you feed on the right meals, you become healthier. The reverse is true when you feed on the wrong ones. So, I will ask, what are you eating?
